Monaghan narrowly beat Donegal to win the Ulster final in St Tiernach’s Park yesterday with a final score of M 11-D 10. The atmosphere in Clones was electric as thousands descended on the small town in search of victory. It was county colours rather than rain that flooded the streets, as the bad weather cleared up to gave the teams their chance to shine. Monaghan nudged ahead of Donegal early on and held a small lead throughout the match seeing off Donegal’s attempts to get level. Nearly every Farney fan in Clones had their nails chewed off as Donegal’s second-half offensive campaign on Monaghan gained traction. In the final minutes of the game it seemed like Donegal would score, but the blue and white held their ground and claimed the silverware. We asked our photographer to go up to Clones and capture the scenes both on and off the pitch.
