Silvercrest Foods Suspend Production

Silvercrest Foods in Ballybay has suspended production following the discovery of horse DNA in beef burgers.

Yesterday tests carried out by the Department of Agriculture found that nine more beef burgers from a total of 13 at Silvercrest Foods tested positive for traces of equine DNA.

The A-B-P Food Group are again stressing that the investigations surrounding Horse DNA found in products at one of their plants are centred around two third party EU Suppliers.

The  factory directly employs around 200 people throughout the region and staff will be continued to be paid.
