Monaghan County Museum is appealing to the public for information on a silver Olympic medal won by James Cecil Parke 104 years ago.
Cecil Parke was born in Clones in 1881 and is regarded as one of Irelands greatest all-round sportsmen. He was capped 20 times for Leinster, won the Wimbledon mixed doubles title, was a leading track and field athlete and played top-level golf.
The athlete died in Llandudno, Wales, in 1945, aged 65.
Monaghan County Museum says it has been receiving urgent phone calls form the Irish and British lawn tennis associations concerning the Olympic silver medal won by him in the early nineteen hundreds, but has had no luck in tracing it so far.
