The Cavan Monaghan hospital group has spent over 700,000 thousand euro on transport costs.
More than 60,000 euro of that was used to transport blood and lab samples between the two hospitals in 2011.
Last year, almost 720,000 euro was spent on hospital transport. Taxis were predominately used for the transportation of patients but also for the transfer of files and x-rays.
In 2011, this cost was almost 110,000 euro.
Taxis were also used to transport, blood and lab specimens, costing a further 60,000 euro.
The bulk of the cost was used in engaging private ambulance services to transport patients, staff and files. The cost of using these services last year totalled almost half a million euro.
